International Profile
Exchanges and Linkages
The University has more than 250 exchange agreements and many informal linkages with institutions around the world, which provide opportunities for students and faculty to study, conduct research, develop contacts, and interact with people of a different culture.
Student Exchange
The International Reciprocal Student Exchange Program (IRSEP) is an example of a successful and active student exchange. Founded by students in 1952, IRSEP is the oldest continuous exchange program at the University and primarily offers opportunities to study in China, Germany, Iceland, Malaysia, Senegal, or Tanzania.
Faculty Exchange
One example of an active, successful faculty partnership is the exchange between the University of Minnesota's Medical School and School of Public Health and the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Members of the University’s faculty are chosen based on the quality of their proposed research. This exchange also enables the development of joint research programs between the two institutions.
University Libraries Exchange with China
The University Libraries have several exchanges with academic libraries in China. For example, University librarians have visited China Agriculture University in Beijing to discuss digitization projects with the library, deliver papers on university librarianship, and have presented a workshop on metadata (creating digital information to describe and provide access to digital content). Another example of collaboration is the publications exchange that exists with the library at Huahong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Wuhan.
