Val Björnson Icelandic Exchange Scholarship

In 2007, the University of Minnesota and the University of Iceland celebrated 25 years of student exchange. Over these years, 28 students from Iceland have come to study at the University of Minnesota with support from the Val Björnson Icelandic Exchange Scholarship.

25th Anniversary Celebration in Iceland

In May 2007, University of Minnesota President Robert Bruininks led a delegation to Iceland to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the exchange with the University of Iceland. While in Iceland, the delegation met with faculty and staff at the University of Iceland to discuss ways to continue and expand the exchange, signed and renewed several exchange agreements, and awarded an honorary degree to Iceland's Prime Minister Geir H. Haarde, who received a master’s degree in economics from the U of M in 1977.
