CBS Study Abroad First Steps Meeting and Highlighted Programs

Friday, Nov. 13

College of Biological Sciences students are invited to attend this first step meeting, which will highlight study abroad options of particular interest to CBS students. The session will also feature information about volunteering abroad and study abroad opportunities in Norway.

International Education Week Library Information Fair

The University Libraries will offer international students a demonstration of library resources and will offer assistance in the use of these resources. Refreshments will be provided.

Celebration of the Internationalizing On-Campus Courses Pilot Projects

11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; by invitation only

A special luncheon in honor of faculty members who have participated in the pilot projects for Internationalizing On-Campus Courses and demonstrated a commitment to developing global competencies among undergraduate students. During the luncheon, representatives from the Office of International Programs, Center for Teaching and Learning, and Instructional Design Services will facilitate a short brainstorming session to gather ideas as the University works toward further internationalization the curricula.

Brazil: An Upcoming Agricultural Player

Engaging the World: U.S. Global Competence in the 21st Century

12:20 - 1:10 p.m.; 101 University International Center
Lunch served at noon; video and discussion to begin at 12:20 p.m.

In celebration of International Education Week, CARLA will host a special lunch-time presentation to screen "Engaging the World: U.S. Global Competence in the 21st Century," a short video that showcases how Title VI and Fulbright-Hays programs (of which CARLA is one) have contributed to a more positive image of Americans around the world. "Engaging the World" demonstrates why U.S. global competence is essential in our interconnected world of the 21st century. The video will be followed by a discussion facilitated by CARLA Director Elaine Tarone, who served on the advisory committee for the video. "Engaging the World" was made the American Council on Education and the Coalition for International Education in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Higher Education Act–Title VI and Fulbright-Hays programs. The creation of these programs by the federal government in 1958 and 1961, respectively, marked the beginning of a major U.S. commitment to devote new attention to the world beyond its borders.

Career Information Session for College of Design International Students

12:15 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.; 58 Rapson Hall

There are a number of programs and resources available to support the career development of international students. The focus of this session is to help international students learn about the resources available through International Student and Scholars Services (ISSS), the St. Paul Campus Career Center (SPCCC), and the College of Design College to Career Program. Students will learn about obtaining work-related experiences, internships, and jobs.

China Center 30th Anniversary Celebration and Dinner

The China Center will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Coffman Memorial Union. The keynote speech “America and China Working Together” will be given by former U.S. Congressman Mark Kennedy. Reservations are $40 per person and must be made by November 9. (MORE)
