Cuba Travel License
Traveling to or from Cuba, or engaging in any other activities that may economically benefit Cuba or Cuban nationals, is restricted and sometimes prohibited by U.S. federal law.
The University of Minnesota has a license from the U.S. Department of the Treasury to sponsor academic travel to and from Cuba. The Office of International Programs coordinates use of the license, authorizes travel, and keeps the records required by the U.S. government. All campuses of The University of Minnesota are included under the terms of the license.
The license issued by the Office of Foreign Assets Control, within the U.S. Department of the Treasury, addresses the economic sanctions that the U.S. has imposed on Cuba and allows authorized travelers to spend money in Cuba, up to the State Department's current per diem rate. This license is separate from any other authorizations and visas that a traveler will need.
