Purpose:
The University of Minnesota Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization that raises and manages private support for the University from alumni and friends, businesses, foundations, and other organizations. Private support provides funds for scholarships and fellowships, endowed faculty positions, leading-edge research, new facilities, and improved academic programs. Gifts to the University support all colleges and programs systemwide.
Functions:
- Receives, manages, and administers contributions of cash, securities, bequests, property, gifts-in-kind, and other assets
- Manages and invests gifts designated for endowment to provide a continuous resource for the programs designated by donors
- Works with University leaders to identify needs and set fund-raising priorities
- Oversees major fund-raising efforts
- Promotes giving to the University through communication and outreach activities and keeps donors informed about the impact their gifts are having on the University
- Manages University-wide donor recognition programs, including the Presidents Club, which recognizes lifetime giving of at least $25,000, and the Maroon and Gold Club, which recognizes annual gifts of at least $1,000
Services:
The University of Minnesota Foundation operates central services including: communications, annual giving, donor relations, corporate and foundation relations, financial records, management information systems, operations, planning and administration, planned and major gifts, and research. Additionally, development officers are located in more than 25 colleges and programs throughout the four campuses.
