Purpose:
University Relations is the central communications office of the University of Minnesota and works to develop relationships with people both internal and external to the University through timely and accurate communications.
Function:
This office is primarily responsible for University-wide communications, events planning, media relations, government relations, community relations, U information, and marketing for the University. This office, the University of Minnesota Alumni Association, and the University of Minnesota Foundation report to the vice president of University Relations.
Services:
Planning an Event
- Marketing staff can provide advice about protocol, event preparation, and ceremonies.
Introduction to the University
- Materials: University Relations has an inventory of campus maps, Twin Cities guides, and publications with general background information about the University.
Publicity for a major event or international visitor
- News Service staff write news releases, contact local and regional media, and publish publications that reach an external audience.
- Marketing staff can help you plan ceremonies and advise on protocol, particularly when the University president or other dignitaries are involved.
- Communication Services staff can place information about your event in publications that reach the University community.
